Federal Way Waterfront Real Estate

Contact us to help you buy or sell your Federal Way waterfront home

Federal Way offers long stretches of undeveloped coastline interspersed with northwesterly facing waterfront homes that take in northern vistas up the Sound, across Vashon Island, and to the Olympic Mountains. Active shipping channels keep the on-water activity lively as boats large and small head in and out of Tacoma to the south or Des Moines to the north. Wildlife is plentiful, and solitude abounds since the westerly reach of Dash Point takes many of Federal Way's waterfront homes away from SeaTac airport's flight path. For the many higher bank waterfront view properties along the coastline, there are also great local waterfront parks for everyone to enjoy: Poverty Bay Park, Dumas Bay Park, and Dash Point State Park. Federal Way is a wonderful and more affordable waterfront destination for people working in Tacoma or willing to travel a bit further to Seattle, and of course for those just seeking the tranquility of its shores!

Overview

Federal Way is one of the area's younger suburban cities, with a population over 83,000, though it began as a logging settlement in the late 1800s. Located just 8 miles north of downtown Tacoma and 25 miles south of downtown Seattle, the retail heart of Federal Way (and SeaTac Mall) rests between I-5 and SR 99. Incorporated since February 1990, the city's current growth is impressive, including its expansions of community recreational facilities, parks, trails, large new retail stores, expanded hotel capacity, widened streets, and pedestrian walkways. City government is local and responsive, and is committed to an enhanced quality of life for its residents.

Travelers along I-5 are able to glimpse the wooded 489 acre Weyerhaeuser Company corporate headquarters campus. The unusual headquarters building serves as a dam for a 10 acre stream-fed lake, surrounded by a meadow of summertime wildflowers. West Campus is a 1600 acre Weyerhaeuser-developed community in Federal Way. Hidden among its trees are a large business park of multistory office buildings, medical facilities and St. Francis Hospital, a very large regional library, a postal bulk mail facility, Federal Way City Hall, and the world-class Weyerhaeuser-King County Aquatic Center which hosted the U.S. Diving Team trials for the 2000 Olympic Games.

Neighborhoods

Treed slopes rise from sea level to over 400 feet elevation, affording many opportunities to find water and mountain views. The first portions of Marine Hills and Twin Lakes Golf & Country Club were developed over 30 years ago, with high quality view homes and golf course settings. In the late 1970s and early '80s, West Campus began to develop its many neighborhoods, with pre-planned sites for schools, libraries, and services. Condominiums and townhouse neighborhoods are more plentiful than in most areas. New construction continues today. Campus Estates is one example of the fine homes areas on larger lots. All price ranges are represented.

Schools

The Federal Way Public Schools system offers many elementary, middle, and high schools to choose from to support it's growing population. The city also offers Highline Community College and Devry University for those seeking locally based advanced degrees.

Parks and Recreation

Within the greater Federal Way area are more than a dozen lakes and miles of Puget Sound beaches. Some of the lakes are quietly residential, and most have access for fishing and small boats. Five Mile Lake and Steel Lake offer large public parks with picnic, playground and swimming areas. Dash Point State Park offers camping, picnicking, foot trails and beaches. Dumas Bay Center and its facilities house the Knutzen Performing Arts Theater, as well as meeting and banquet rooms; the grounds are peaceful and lovely. Celebration Park has 4 lighted ball fields, 4 lighted soccer fields, and a system of nature trails.
